Global X debuts suite of leveraged single-stock ETFs

Global X Investments Canada on Oct. 14 announced the launch of its PowerStock ETFs, a suite of lightly-leveraged single-stock ETFs that offer Canadians the ability to increase their investment exposure to individual companies they believe in for the long term, without the need for margin. The initial PowerStock offers enhanced exposure to six companies that have captured investors' attention around the world: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, NVIDIA, SpaceX and Tesla.

Each of the PowerStock ETFs seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation by targeting 33% additional exposure to its underlying stock – approximately $133 of stock exposure for every $100 invested. The ETFs trade in Canadian dollars and hedge foreign currency exposure back to the Canadian dollar. This enhanced exposure magnifies movements in the underlying stock in both directions, meaning investors may experience larger gains or losses than they would from holding the stock directly.

BMO launches new Latin America index ETF

BMO Asset Management on Oct. 8 announced the launch of a new Latin America index ETF.

BMO MSCI Latin America GDP Weighted Index ETF (TSX: ZLAT) aims to track the performance of the MSCI EM Latin America GDP Weighted Index which is based on the MSCI Emerging Markets Latin America Index, its parent index, and currently includes large- and mid-cap stocks domiciled from across five emerging markets in Latin America: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. Unlike its market cap-weighted parent index, the weight of each country in the index is derived from its economic size (using GDP data) rather than the size of its equity market.

Fidelity launches quant ETF

On Oct. 1, Fidelity Investments Canada debuted its new Fidelity Global Quant Equity ETF (TSX: FGQE) and Fidelity Global Quant Equity ETF Fund, which aim to invest primarily in equity securities of companies anywhere in the world. Fidelity says its quantitative strategies use a data-driven approach to identify favorable investments. By evaluating thousands of data points, quantitative strategies can uncover opportunities that may be difficult to identify through traditional research alone.

Manulife debuts three new ETFs

Manulife Investments on Sept. 29 announced it has expanded its ETF lineup, with three new ETFs.

TD launches new bond pool and international dividend ETF

TD Asset Management on Sept. 17 announced the launch of a new bond pool and an international dividend ETF.

TD Diversified Bond Pool is a short-duration fund, purpose-built for today’s fixed income environment. It aims to generate income and the potential for long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in, or gaining exposure to, fixed-income securities and other income-producing securities.

TD Q International Dividend ETF (TSX: TQID) invests primarily in a diversified portfolio of income-producing securities of issuers outside of Canada and the United States, which may include, but is not limited to, dividend-paying common and preferred shares and REITs. It utilizes a quantitative equity strategy to identify and optimize exposure to stocks that have above-average dividend yields and/or issuers that are expected to pay out increasing dividends over time.

Vanguard debuts new global bond ETF

Vanguard Investments Canada on Sept. 9 announced the launch of its first actively managed fixed-income ETF.

Vanguard Global Core-Plus Bond ETF (TSX: VCOR) applies Vanguard’s strongest convictions across global rates, credit, and securitized markets, with a “core” allocation to investment-grade bonds, along with a “plus” component that allocates to higher-yielding bonds. The fund aims for total return while generating a moderate to high level of current income. The fund seeks to hedge its U.S.-dollar currency exposure back to the Canadian dollar and is expected to pay monthly distributions.
